I can think of no better city than Houston to spend a few hours. If you find yourself hanging out in my favorite city, enjoy a few of these top-notch winners. With spots as hot as the weather, you are sure to enjoy your time!
Break in the day with a sweat-sesh! No complaints there. Hop onto 19th street and you will quickly spot the bright-orange building that is RIDE Indoor Cycling. My preference is a fast 45 minute class with Taryn on a weekend morning. Enjoy the high energy jaunt to propel you into your day. Also, this studio is built in Texas, and I love the idea of small business support.
While in the neighborhood, head over to a local coffee shop. My recommendation for quaint and small is EQ on Heights Blvd or Kraftsmen Baking on 22nd . While enjoying the Houston weather, and since you’ve already been moving, jump on the Heights Blvd. trail and hit on some of the local antique shops. You’ll be well ahead of the morning crowd!
After finishing up in The Heights, there is no reason to kill the healthy vibe you’ve got going on. Head to the farmers market on Richmond Avenue and enjoy some fresh fruits and veggies from local vendors. Fill up your basket with some fresh produce and squeezed juices!
Up next, time for lunch and shopping. This is one of Grace and I’s favorite afternoon activities, especially when we are exploring each other’s cities.
Sweet stores and restaurants with character and umph are my go-to. In the Highland Village area, you will find a Houston favorite, Little Boxwoods. There chocolate chip cookies are TO DIE FOR! Not to mention the scenic garden & gift store out back.
Another favorite in the same area is Texas-grown Central Market. Keep it low key with this lunch. While you could get lost in this grocery story for hours, I suggest the southwest salad at the deli counter. Avocado, plantains and black beans make for perfect accessories to this salad as big as your face! Pick a table outside on the patio and enjoy prime-people watching.
After a quick bite, shopping in the area is Saturday afternoon perfection. More than the stores, the ability to walk outside and enjoy the sunshine makes moving from store to store so pleasant. Need a final sweetness to end the day? Grab a sweet treat at Sprinkle’s ATM machine, if you are feeling adventurous and in the need of a sugar pick-me-up!
For dinner, I look no further than Max’s Wine Dive. While people could name lists on lists on lists of H-town’s hottest restaurants to try, Max’s offers, what I feel is, the number one meal in the city—Fried Chicken Dinner! Some of the sweetest birthday and anniversary celebrations have happened at the long counter of this city favorite.

To close out the evening, enjoy a post-dinner dessert at Sweet Paris Creperie & Café. End the evening on an exotic flare, as you slip into this side street cutie! You will feel like a true Parisian munching on a Nutella crepe or sipping a coffee night-cap.
Houston is thriving city and a fun place to call home. Every street if filled with a unique identity and bubbling character. Soak in the goodness of this urban metropolis at any time of year, because the sun is constantly shining at the southern hospitality is abundant.
